[71 letters covering the years 1882-1887 and 1889 were added to this folder in December 2011.]
This folder contains letters from Mary Valinda Miller (1830-1912) to her daughter, Mina Miller Edison. The 204 selected items cover the years 1884-1898. Many of the letters are addressed jointly to Mina and Thomas Edison. Also included is a letter from Mina Edison to her mother, written in August 1889 while she and Thomas were attending the Paris Universal Exposition, expressing her frustration that "it seems impossible to go anywhere with Mr. Edison. We never get out as somebody is after him all the time." The letter also contains numerous references to Madeleine Edison, born fifteen months earlier, who was staying with the Miller family in Akron while the Edisons were in Europe. Four additional letters written by Mina Edison during her European tour can be found in the Charles Edison Fund Collection.
Additional letters by Mary V. Miller can also be found in the Charles Edison Fund Collection and in the David E. E. Sloane Collection. Courtesy of Thomas Edison National Historical Park.
