This letterbook covers the period January 1882-November 1883. All of the correspondence is by Insull and is in his hand. Most of the letters pertain to various domestic and foreign electric light companies. Included is correspondence about the Edison Co. for Isolated Lighting, the Edison Electric Illuminating Co. of New York, the Edison Electric Light Co., Ltd., and the Edison Electric Light Co. of Europe, Ltd. Other material relates to the personal finances of both Insull and Edward H. Johnson. Among the recipients are Johnson, Charles Batchelor, Joseph Insull, and Francis R. Upton. The spine is stamped "Insull Private Letters No.1." The book contains 296 numbered pages. Pages 184-296 are blank.
