Notebook Series -- Notebooks by Edison and Other Experimenters -- Disc Record Books:
[NA311B]

[The following note describes a series of notebooks and has no document records attached to it. For that reason, a "no Documents found" message will appear if the "List Documents" button at the bottom of the note is used. To see the records in the notebooks described here, use the "Which Series Notes?" button to enter the Series Notes or use the "Next Text" button to move to the first item in the series.]

This group of twenty-six notebooks was used during the period December 1915-September 1918. All of the entries in the first fourteen books are by Edison. The next eleven books also contain notes by Edison, along with increasing numbers of entries by William Walter Dinwiddie, Archie D. Hoffman, and others. Book 26 contains no entries or notations by Edison. The notes consist primarily of a sequence of numbered experiments relating to efforts to improve the quality of Edison disc records. The experiments were focused primarily on the composition and construction of disc record blanks, as well as the coating of the varnish into which the music was pressed or printed. Other employees who assisted in the work include G. H. Baldwin, Charles G. Kircher, Sherwood T. (Sam) Moore, and Frederick P. Ott. All of the books have been selected.
