This 1889 letter from Eugene H. Lewis of the law firm of Eaton & Lewis to the Passport Division of the U.S. State Department encloses an application by Edison for a passport to travel to Europe to attend the Paris Universal Exposition. Edison's occupation is listed as "inventor," and details regarding his physical description are provided. The name of Edison's personal attorney, Sherburne B. Eaton, appears as witness.
