This letter from 1880, with a typed notation from 1929, describes Edison’s requirements for an engineering position with his new Electric Light Co. in New York City. The author, David M. Greene, was director of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, and the recipient, James W. Pearl, was a student whom he was planning to recommend for the job.
