These documents cover the years 1877-1883. They relate to the Western Electric Manufacturing Co., a firm that manufactured Edison's electric pen and carbon telephone. Included are letters and agreements pertaining to the organization and financing of electric pen production in the United States. Also included are items dealing with the marketing of telephones in Australia and New Zealand by Western Electric agent Francis R. Welles. In addition, there are notes and drawings of telegraph and telephone equipment, along with other technical material. The documents are arranged in the following order: (1) Agreements and Correspondence; (2) Technical Notes and Drawings.
