[X400B]

[This collection is currently being edited. For that reason, no images will appear if the "List Documents" button at the bottom of the note is used.]

These letters are primarily from Madeleine Edison to her future husband, John Eyre Sloane. There are also letters by Mina Miller Edison, Madeleine's uncle John V. Miller, and her aunt Louise Igoe Miller. Some of the letters relate to John's proposal of marriage in mid-July and Madeleine's initial reluctance to make a commitment. There is also correspondence pertaining to Madeleine's vacation in Bermuda and Fort Myers during the winter of 1910, her vacation with her mother and brothers at Monhegan Island in July, the family's automobile trip through upstate New York in September, and Madeleine's trip to Chicago in December to visit her friend Julia Thompson. In addition to the correspondence, there is a poem, probably written by Madeleine in Bermuda, as well as a humorous handwritten Halloween place card and a Christmas card with a handwritten note by Madeleine.
