Description

This notebook was used during the period January-November 1882 to record tests and experiments conducted at the Edison Machine Works in New York City. The entries are by Clarke, William S. Andrews, John W. Lieb, John F. Ott, and one or several unidentified experimenters. Included are tests of the conductivity of wire and the resistance of lamps, along with tests of dynamos, safety catches, and voltage regulation designs. At the beginning of the book is a notation by Clarke from 1936 indicating that it is a "page by page copy from a like note-book of the testing room at the Edison Machine Works, Goerck St., New York City." There are several additional entries signed by Clarke and dated July 31, 1936. The label on the front cover is inscribed "Electrical Experiments and Tests." The book contains 99 numbered pages, followed by two unnumbered pages that were apparently inserted into the book.
