The list is arranged in chronological order by execution date, which is the date on which Edison signed the application and the date in the patenting process that comes closest to the time of actual inventive activity. The application date is the date on which the Patent Office received and recorded the application; the issue date, the time at which the patent, having passed inspection and any legal challenges, was awarded.
