The digital edition of the Thomas A. Edison Papers consists of documents from the archives of the Thomas Edison National Historical Park scanned from the microfilm edition along with additional documents from other repositories and private collections. Included in the outside repositories edition are items from the AT&T Archives, Charles Edison Fund Collection, Edison-Ford Winter Estates, Henry Ford Museum and Greenfield Village Research Center, Historical Society of Pennsylvania, Library of Congress, National Archives, New-York Historical Society, New York Public Library, Smithsonian Institution, Wichita State University, and Yale University.

The outside repositories edition is updated on a regular basis. Among the recent additions are approximately 1,000 images of correspondence and other documents from the Library of Congress and the private collection of Charles Hummel relating to Edison's research during World War I and his role on the Naval Consulting Board.
